Back to work

 

Thanks for all of you who voted for my doggy and my quilt Floating Flowers over the past weekend in the quilt contest from the quilters gallery! I did not make it though; there were many other beautiful quilts you could vote for. Never mind.

So let's get back to business! My parents were at my place for the weekend and I got a bit more quilting done on my UFO. Hopefully it will be finished before I leave for Brazil. I want to leave it behind in our apartment in Holland. 

This apartment is our save place where we can stay every time we come back from overseas. My UFO would be a nice quilt on one of the single beds where the kids usually sleep when they come back to Holland. The both live abroad; my DD lives in London and my DS in New York City. That happens when you drag them along while living overseas for more than 20 years... ;-)

A few more stitches and this quilt should be finished just in time. Hilde

Floating Flowers

My mini Schnauzer named Spetter loves it every time I spread my quilt projects out on the floor. In fact my other dog, a standard Schnauzer named Bickel, likes it too but he hates my camera and sneaks away as soon as I hold that flashlight machine in my hands...

This quilt is made out of one kind of fabric, the one that goes around in the border. I got this bright colored fabric more then a year ago at Quilts 'n Calicoes, a lovely shop in Singapore.The owner, Ira Joseph, is a wonderful woman and skilled quilter. Once you enter her shop it feels like being in a candy store, so many colorful fabrics to choose from!

With the Stack and Whack way this colorful quilt was born. The pattern is from the book: One Block Wonder by Maxine Rosenthal. Every time I worked on this quilt I was struck by the effect of rearranging the triangles.
Working on this one was such a joy; I almost did not want it to be finished.
I hand-quilted it with a multi-colored thread, first along the ditch, and then again with circles at the corners where three blocks meet.

It took a while before I found another project that was as much inspiring to me as this one.
