Almost finished

Are you still working on that gecko quilt? Hmm, yes. Because the threads kept on shredding, breaking, knotting, etc I could not work on it for hours in a row. Until my dear friend Rose-Anne told me about a lecture by Cindy Needham. This lady knows all the inns and outs about machine quilting, thread tensions, needles and most of all: Problem Solving. Her website is: http://www.cindyneedham.com/ Check this out, also when you are not machine quilting!
The first change I made was the position of the thread delivery: from horizontal to vertical. What a difference this makes! Now it is a bit more fun to work on my quilt and there is only a small part left for the quilting. Before doing the final stitches I started to tie-off all the threads. This gave me some time to think about the final doodle lines to make this quilt complete! The quilt looks already much better. Next posting this one is finished! Sure it is!

Zeker weten!

Slowly making progress

Slowly more doodle lines are added to my Gecko quilt. I love to see how the soft shine of the quilting thread merges with the colours of the fabrics. But using this thread with the BSR is not always fun....

Every day new pictures of Pincushions, who have reached their destination somewhere around the world, are added to the album. Just click on the image of the Swap at the top on the right hand side to see the new additions. They are such a great inspiration for your next pincushion swap!

Doodling with the BSR

A few posts back I mentioned that I had some problems with the BSR of my Bernina. Oops, I should not have mentioned this because it was all my own misunderstanding of this wonderful stitch... Mr. Toledo of the Bernina shop here in town, came by and checked the machine: she is in excellent form, he told me! He showed me how to change from BSR1 to BSR2 and told me to change the bobbin tension... was I stupid!

Maybe a bit difficult to see because I used white on white, but this a first doodling attempt with the BSR2. I also found many examples for free-motion quilting designs at Leah's flickr album. These pictures and with the quilts seen at last week's show in São Paulo, I knew what I wanted to do!

And this is how the Gecko's are being 'doodled'....

To be continued! Wordt vervolgd!

To Bsr or not to Bsr...

Something strange happened: with the first two cushion covers I was only able to use the BRS 2 mode of my Bernina, but with the last two ones only the BSR 1 mode wanted to work. Does anyone knows why???
I followed the instructions as written in the manual, watched some you-tube instruction films and checked out the Bernina website and blog.
I prefer using the BSR 2 mode, but could not get it active again. Maybe there is something wrong with the BSR/balance button on my machine?
Anyway, I finished the four pieces and in the end I used the freehand quilting stitch darning foot 9 instead.

Now I better get them in the mail and send them to my MIL in Holland. Last month she turned 85 and she does miss us every day. Hopefully these little cushion covers will give her a bit of comfort.

And then back to my geckos, who have patiently waiting on the wall to be stitched down to their backgound!
