For the love of African Fabrics

Still from my introduction to box making video
Still from my introduction to Box Making video

A few days ago I was interviewed by Miriam Galadima - Benson of Quilts Africa Fabrics in Nigeria. We talked about our passion for African Fabrics and I showed her a few of my quilts. Due to delayed internet connection the video is sometimes blurred and not always in sync. This created hilarious moments! ;)

The interview is now on my Youtube channel.

In the first part of this video is a short introduction video to box-making included. At 21 minutes the interview starts where I tell a little bit about my creative journey and show some of my African Quilts.

While waiting for my departure to Ghana I went to the other side of Holland this last Friday
to give a workshop Busy Bee Box at a quilting bee
I filled my bags with cardboard kits, glue, brushes etc and made the trip

It was a very entertaining day and the ladies worked hard
so by the end of the day there were 10 beautiful sewing boxes on the table

Thanks ladies for the fun day and the delicious cakes!  ;)

Busy Bee Box Time!

On the 25th of Februari I will give another workshop at the Quiters Palet in The Hague
We will make the ultimate all-in-1 toolbox

This super handy Busy Bee Box measures about 15 x 20 cm
There is space for all your favourite sewing tools
The foldable lid holds a small cutting board, sand paper to draw lines on fabric and a design part to keep the patches you are working with in order

Another sewing box story

Can I introduce you to Buenos Aires based Cecilia Koppmann?!
I follow her blogspt since the time I lived in São Paulo
and love her colourful designs

Cecilia in her studio

In Santiago-Chile I became friends with Patricia Perez-Canto Caffrey, who happened to be Cecilia's quilting teacher when she lived in Argentina many years ago. Since then Cecilia went on and her quilts win prices in different international quilt exhibitions.

Together with Patricia I made my gradation quilt which originally is one of the designs by Cecilia... are you still with me? ;)

As a way of saying thank you for sharing her ideas I made Cecilia this all-in-one sewing box, and Patricia took it with her on her last visit to Cecilia in Buenos Aires.

I am happy she likes it and hope she can make use of it!

A sewing box for a friend

Yesterday I suddenly realised I needed a present for a friend's birthday
On Heather's blog I had seen a pretty sewing box and I thought to give it a try!

After some adjustments to the original design I went ahead.
Because the lid can expand, putting together all elements
is a bit different than usual.
Lucky me, I knew my friend wouldn't mind to receive this prototype
of a multi-functional sewing box

Inside the lid there is a cutting board,a piece of sandpaper
and a piece of batting as a design place for blocks to be made

A matching pincushion to finish it up
this all-in-one sewing box to take with you to the next sewing bee
or a weekend away

And my friend? She is very happy with her new sewing box!
