Sunday morning walk

This last Sunday we went for a hike uphill behind Pablo Neruda's house
We left a little early to be ahead of the crowd
We took a dry path and not the main road
this sign tells us that we had walked for only 649 meters 'as the crow flies'
but climbed for about 300 meters

It hasn't been raining for about 5 months and everything is dry and dusty
every now and then there is a water tap to the fill up our bottles

These plants reminds me of our time in Italy

By lack of trees names are written in these leaves

By road, many cyclist came pedalling up the hill and enjoyed the vista from the top at the end of the road. Unfortunately, there is always a smog hanging over the city

We continued our way up to finish at the top of the hill at this small church and
the statue of the Holy Virgin

For many the way up the hill is a true pilgrimage
Once up there everyone is quite and whispers, or is simply exhausted ;)

Next to the statue, in a corner, stands a iron rack with a few burning candles
the ground beneath is slippery

Groetjes,
Hilde

  1. It looks like it's as dry in Chile as it's here in Singapore at the moment. The grass is brown and everything is dusty, just like in your photos. I do hope we both get some rain soon. In all the years I've been in Singapore, I've never seen it so dry. Is it usual to have a dry season in Chile?
