Buying African fabrics from the Cloth Man

The cloth man came by today and his fabrics looked so attractive to me I couldn't resist!

Please come inside the gate and show me what you have please.

Tussen de lappen zit zijn schaar verstopt. Elke lap is precies in yards opgevouwen.

In between the pieces of fabric his scissors are hiding. Every piece of fabric is precisely folded on the yardage. If you need 2 or 3 yards he will find the correct fold and slides his scissors of the exactly through it.

Almost all Cloth men who are selling their goods on the street in Accra are from Niger. They buy the fabrics in Lome, Togo, and come to Accra to sell it for double the amount. I don't mind paying a bit more then on the market, this way I can help him and his family. I prefer doing this then seeing them on the streets begging for money.

Before and after ;)

Hah! His load has become a lot less for the rest of the day and I got my fabric fix! ;)

A total of 29 yards...

The man with the scissors and his sewing machine

STOP!!
Hier wil ik even kijken!

Today I suddenly saw this roadside shop selling fabrics. STOP!!
I need to have a look here! With this scorching sun my mobile phone does not take the best pictures, but it still gives an impression of daily life in Accra

Fabric and peanuts roadside shop

Her daughters help her run the store when they come back from school

When I had selected some fabrics her husband came walking by with his sewing machine on his head. A beautiful Butterfly sewing machine!
He goes along the houses to look for clothes to be mended. When walking along he clicks his scissors to attract business.
As we chatted he took out his large scissor and scratched with the tip in his armpit...

PS: I got these!
