Last but not least...

Just before the year draws to a close I show you the projects I finished in the past few weeks

African Kaleidoscope # 6 - "Star Fruit" (46x46cm)

This little one is finished and will stay behind in Holland to be shown at the Miniature exhibition of the Quilters Guild in March. I pieced it by machine and quilted it by hand.

Baby quilt (90x120cm)

On the brink of New Year's eve my niece delivered a baby boy and I made her a quilt while enjoying the good life in Holland. Just hopped on the bike to go to the quilt shop some quilting thread and ordered things online...Like the fabric with 'The wolf and seven little goats' which I ordered HERE.

This project I can't show you yet... ;)

Last but not least:
2016 has been a very colourful year...
Thanks for all your wonderful likes and comments!

Almost there!

Nog even de naadjes controleren en gladstrijken,
A last check on the seams and ironing them into one direction,

45x45 cm - 18x18 inches

Quilting this kaleidoscope by hand, meanwhile deciding which star shape to accentuate.

African batik Kaleidoscope in the making!

A new design for a new African Kaleidoscope with African Batiks.

This time I want to try to get more dept in the diamond shape

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4
The wedges are still kept separate from each other, because this diamond is still growing...

To prevent the wedges from falling down from the design wall, I keep them under a piece of tule.

Picture frames with African fabric

Instead of boxes, I made a few fabric picture frames for a charity bazaar.

These frames are for 4x6" and 5x7" pictures,
but even without pictures they will look good on the bookshelf  ;)

I was pleasantly surprised with the many positive reactions!

The very first workshop Fabric Picture Frame will take place next week!

Star patching at the beach

Time for a cool down at the beach.
Recently the temperature increased suddenly and with the high humidity it feels like being in an oven for the whole time...

Just a four hours drive from Accra and we can relax.

With an ever changing view my patchwork is not making any progress! ;)

Patching with a view

The owner of this hotel keeps horses and this morning one of them needed to go out for a run to get used to the splashing sea water

Na afloop even pootje baden en afkoelen
A wel deserved cool down

We stayed here for just one night... too short!

My mascot: the Gecko

My 'on-the-go' project is a new Starry quilt with African fabrics, with 8 point, 6 point and 5 point stars on a deep purple background. I lost the pattern after a computer crash but luckily I was able to get hold of it again!

The quilt here below was my first Starry quilt, made with Indonesian batiks while living in Singapore.

So now I'm working on the African episode, all by hand, nice and slow...

African Starry Night in the making

Maybe I should make a tutorial for this pattern...

Keep calm, stay cool and sew on...

Pan African Friendship Quilt Challenge Show 2016!

\
In March I told you a little bit about the Pan African Friendshio Quilt Challenge 2015-2016 organised by the quilters guild in Cape Town, South Africa. I was asked if I wanted to join and ofcourse I did! The deadline for this challenge was last September and the show was held in Cape Town last month. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go there but two friends were and thanks to them I have these pictures to share.

My center block

My 'Twin sister's' center block

All participants received the same set of 6 fabrics. With some, or all, you had to make a center block. You were allowed to add a few more fabrics. This block you had to send to your 'Twin sister' somewhere in Africa. She added a border and mailed it back to sender.
You can read HERE how I designed the border to my Twin Sister's' block.
After this we had to finish our quilts and mail it in time to Cape Town for the quilt show.

The border I added to her center block

This is how they were displayed at the quilt show in Cape Town:

Also some pictures of the other sets of quilts:

African Kaleidoscope No 4

Tadaah! 'Ripples in the well', mijn vierde Afrikaanse Caleidoscoop, vernoemd naar de Afrikaanse print Nsubra!

Happy to introduce you to my latest African Kaleidoscope 'Ripples in the well', named after the African print Nsubra!

60 x 60 cm square

Mounted on a canvas frame

This was the first step in making this quilt. If you look closely you will see that I changed the green fabric in the hart of the Caleidoscope to a blue-white one, the same as I used in the border.

The backside

I made this quilt in Ghana with only African prints and it is going to my quilting buddy from Santiago, Chile. For the picture I mounted it on canvas. Back in Holland I was able to send it safely to the US from where she will pick it up next time she is there.
Yesterday I showed her the pictures on Skype, so now I can show them finally here as well.
