Yesterday we sat down again at the Knit Cafe, 4 ladies chatting away with cafe and cake but no knitting at all. Just quilt talk and a few stitches...
The top is almost finished, just a few more Cookies to go. Cookies? Yes, that's how I call the very last round of circles. They are smaller than the Pies and the Tarts and are made out of the background fabric I cut away behind the Tarts. Are you with me? ;o)
|one Pie and some smaller Cookies
The Pies & Tarts are made with English paper piecing, I used a pattern of Sue Daley. I keep the paper behind until they are sewn onto the background fabric. Then I cut away the background fabric and peel out the papers. This eliminates the bulk of fabric which will be good as I want to hand quilt this project. The center blocks are all with a green background and only the outer ring is with purple backgrounds.
|de achterkant - the back side
The green left-over backgrounds of the Pies (the bigger pies) I used again in the Tarts (middle size pies) for the outermost intersections between green and purple backgrounds. After sewing on these Tarts I cut out the background again and I wondered what I could do with these pieces of fabric (second picture above). And so the Cookies came and are the outer ring of applique on this quilt. Gosh, it is easier to sew than to explain!
need to rest...
Bijna klaar! Nog twee Cookies te gaan. Kun jij zien waar ze moeten?
Almost finished! Two more Cookies to go. Can you find the spot?
