Cappuccino break!

Deadlines! So much to do before I go on home-leave so the pressure is on! Time for a break, time for cappuccino!

The lady who will look after my dogs when I am away, ordered a jewelery box covered with fabric. I made two different ones, one with a soft 'topping' and one without. She can choose which one she likes best, the other one will go to my shop.

Cappuccino is finished!  More boxes are in the pipeline! I want to make as many as possible before I leave this coming Monday. It's just because I want to promote my workshops at the next Bazaar here in São Paulo, in August, only a few days upon my return from Holland. This will give me another good reason to come back to São Paulo!

More inspiration

Last week's sewing was at my place and my new friend brought her Wonky Town quilt.
I just love her colour arrangement and the blocks are so playfully all together. Seeing this quilt makes me smile!

The basic pattern comes from The UnRuly Quilter, and it is called Wonkytown. The link has a free tutorial.

She only started quilting recently and I think she already has found her own style! Maybe she can inspire you too!

Back home again

The trip to Salvador, Bahia, was wonderful!  The town, the people, the food and the beach...! I didn't do a lot of sewing...

On our way to ...
Salvador

Peeking inside a classroom lace making / kantklossen / rendeiras
Peeking inside a tourist shop!

Okay, I did a little bit of piecing!
I can tell you that this kind of piecing is very addictive! And I am going to stick to the colours greens and blues!

The suite case is unpacked and waiting for the next trip. In about two weeks I will go to my home country for about one month. Can't wait!

Heerlijk!

Packing my suitcase

My DH and I are going to make a trip to Salvador, Bahia, a village in the north-east of Brazil! It is about 2000 km from São Paulo. We are going to visit the old village and relax for a few days at the beach. What to bring!? I have been busy planning this trip for some time, reloaded the battery of my camera, sorted out colours, sharpened my needles, laying out my necessities on the table. I think I have all I need for this trip.

Green and blue colours are my favorite for this trip. Most of us use a lighter colour for the background but, as usual, I prefer something different. ;)

Alarm clock is set; we have to get up early to get to the airport in time before the famous traffic jam of São Paulo. Looking forward to some warm and sunny days, never mind the prediction of some showers! With my green and blue project in my suitcase this trip can't go wrong!

PS: the little Giant is ready to be quilted, waiting for my return

A little bit more progress made

Outside it is rainy and cold (10˚C), inside the temperature is slowly dropping; only in the kitchen near the stove we kind find some warmth. But don't think I am having troubles staying warm: while playing with the sunny colours in my different projects I forget about the cold.
O Gigante (Os Gemeos)

What do you think of this one? This chap is coming together. But I realize I have to place his feet on the ground seeing this picture. To get a sense of proportion, I want to add another object, something like a streetlight.

This week I cleaned up my cutting table and
made an extra photo - memo board. I covered a painters canvas with a piece of batting, a Vietnamese scarf, ribbons and buttons. Now I have my family and friends a little closer.

Another box came out of my hands and I like the warm combination of colours. I have to make stock in case I can join a bazaar in August. Just to promote my workshops box-making which I would like to get started one day!

Thank you!

Thanks for all your votes with the Quilting Gallery last week. I came third in the contest and won a 1-year long subscription on The Quilt Pattern Magazine, an on-line magazine. A special thanks goes to the Yahoo Group Patchepinte in Brazil, they started a voting frenzy and pushed my Gecko Dance to the top three. Obrigada! With the quilt story contest in Dutch I ended up somewhere in the bottom ;-)

Obrigada!

My DS is back to his town, NYC, where the weather is hot and humid. Here it has turned chilly and with no heating system in the house we are dressed in many layers. If the sun comes out the house warms up a little. I am not looking forward to some rainy days, they say will come over the weekend.
On the streets dogs are wearing sweaters, so funny! Just like on this picture from Google images, they wear hair clips and shiny ear decorations, some even wear shoes.

I told you about a sewing group I was going to. Well, I found new friends! They are as crazy as I am about sewing, patching, quilting and colours! This gives me a warm feeling and makes settling into this new country a bit easier. Yes, I still not feel settled in. It is something that's called 'expat dip', a new adventure and you should go out and make new friends but you have no energy to do so. With the kids out of the house, it is such a different story to move to a new country. It needs time.

WIP in progress

With my DS back in NY, I will try to speed up this 'Giant' project.

Ciao from Brasil! Hilde
